The Weekend Is Over :(

Hello everybody. I didn't want to post until I had a few pictures. I'm not getting out and shooting as much as I would like to. This is my honey, Chuck. We went out to Aunt Pat's last night for a cookout. My great-aunt Treva (Cookie) and my second cousins Mary-Beth and Bill came down from Chicago. It's the first time I've seen any of them since my grandmother's funeral in May of 2005. My great-uncle Bill came over from Anderson as well. Aunt Cookie and Uncle Bill are my maternal grandmother's brother and sister. It was a very short stay. They got in around noon Saturday, and left around noon Sunday.

Now I'm going to make you all tired of field and autumn leaves pictures! LOL I took these two pictures this evening on my way home from the store. Not exactly on my way, but I went this particular way because 2 evenings ago when I went this way, I saw three deer at the edge of this tree line.

Naturally, I didn't have my camera with me. It would have been a little too dark for a good shot anyway. So, I took my camera this time, and of course, no deer!

While I was outside with the camera this evening, I happened to notice this on the maple tree. Only the white part. The other part is just a little knot on the branch. I believe it must be some sort of coccoon, but I've never seen anything like this before. It is a hard substance. Does anybody know what this is?

These two books used to be in my grandparents' old house. Of course, there were several books there, but I only took these two. It stood empty for several years before they finally tore it down a few years ago. This top book is 104 years old!
This book, same book open and closed, is 106 years old. I had almost fogotten that I had them until I saw something online about antiques.

I don't know if you'll be able to click to enlarge any of the pictures or not. It usually doesn't work for my blog for some reason. Lori told me how to set the size of the pictures, but it never works. Okay, I tested it and the ones that will enlarge are marked above the picture. The difference is that I didn't change the resolution on those, only the photo size.
This combine and another one were harvesting soy beans next door to Aunt Pat's last night while we were over there.
This poor little guy has some really ragged wings. I had the camera out because I saw a Nuthatch, but naturally, it was gone by time I grabbed the camera. I had only gone out to fill the bird and squirrel feeders. I haven't been feeling all that well the past couple of days, so I haven't messed much with the camera unless I saw something, or thought I might see something. I haven't seen Taffy for 10 days, and I haven't seen the babies for a couple of days. Only the mamma opossum has been around, that I have seen.
I'm going to close off for now, and visit a few of your blogs before I go to bed. I'll finish visiting the rest tomorrow.
Everybody have a great week and take care.
Love Ya
Lisa

Beautiful post, Lisa. I like the lonesome butterfly with the worn wings. These are all nice pictures.

Yes, the weather was very nice for the parade and Sunday was a beautiful day too.

Our daughter and granddaughter have been here a week now and all of us are still alive. LOL

We have had some great times together. The other day my daughter pumped up our bike tires and myself and my granddaughter rode our bikes. She is allowed to ride on the sidewalks. When I jumped on mine and rode away she turned to her mother and said, "Awesome!"

Go to the tools bar and click on the sponge tool. It sucks up the color and leaves gray. Tool bar where the fill bucket is located etc. Think the sponge tool is a fly out with the blur tool on it.

The book looks fascinating! It's in pretty good condition for its age. My family has a lot of stuff like this - my dad's a bit obsessed with family history

Dear Lisa ~~ Great post with lovely photos. I just noticed your virtual cat -
well done. Thanks for your comments and I am so glad you liked the story about
"You are my Sunshine," and also the jokes. Warm weather is nice there and here, before it gets too hot or too cold
Take great care Lisa, I hope you are feeling better. Love, Merle.

Love your pictures as usual. Also love old books. Just think, someone wrote this over 100 years ago, and it's still here. The author is gone but as long as the book is not discarded or lost some where, his words will be here forever.

Nice photos, all do look like Fall. Not a bad looking honey either. Hope you find more time to play around with your camera.

:) It may have been a short visit, but it made you productive - and look all the memories it stirred up. You will fondly remember their visit in the years to come when they will no longer...

Hi Lisa...gorgeous photos as always. That cocoon is a Praying Mantis. We get them all the time here...and although I think they are kinda creepy...when I found out they eat grasshoppers I decided to let them all STAY! Have a wonderful day!

Hi Lisa

I must admit the traffic, crowds, and noise in New York are a bit overwhelming. But the crime rate is really under control in the Touristy areas of the city. It's amazing how safe you feel there now. Totally different once Rudy took care of things. There is so much to see and do. But being a country girl I can only take it in small doses...after about 3 days I'm ready to come home! With your talent for photography you would capture some amazing pictures I'm sure! Have a great night!

poor little butterfly

interesting bark pattern; it reminds me of a bird wing

I like the pastel colors of the field picture.

I hope you're feeling better.

I love the photo of the poor, battered butterfly too.

I have some old books. They are interesting to look thru. I have one written for new wives about how to clean house and do laundry. That one is a hoot.

Hi Lisa, I am still among the land of the living, struggling but surviving.

I confirm that the hard cocoon thing is a praying mantis nest, they are quite fascinating. If I remember correctly they make a sort of mucousy bubble type substance which they lay the eggs in and it hardens like this.

Can't believe it has been so long since my last visit. Glad your mom is feeling better.

I havent seen the nuthatches for a week or two now so I think if they are migratory birds they have probably moved on to warmer climates LOL.
